Venice, Florida! The Paris, Texas of Florida! It's a colorful little place of 50,000 residents. For comparison, Miami has 408,750 people, Orlando has 243,195 -- and the largest city in Florida (Jacksonville) has somewhere north of 800,000. Venice is situated on the Gulf of Mexico side of the state. Weather-wise, I'm going to say that it's a sun-shiny place suffused by salty breezes off the Gulf. The temperatures are something like average highs of 75*F+ (~24*C) and lows of 55*F+ (~12*C). Some rainfall all year round, with the big stuff coming June thru September. That said, Hurricane season lasts May through December in the Gulf and June through November in the Atlantic. Attached is a drawing I made of the place. Very basic, simple geography stuff. A coastline, a bay, a beach, some islands and some bridges, and some coastal marshlands. And here is what I'd like you to do, please. If possible, download the map and add some sort of feature to the town of Venice. Maybe you add Make-out Point on some hill overlooking the bay, maybe you add a gravel quarry where the shitty kids get together to smash stuff and drink, maybe you add a hospital or a zoo or a church or something. Maybe you show me where the rich kids live, or the poor kids live, but just add some sort of feature and let us know what it is and reshare the map to this thread. Here is a link to the map in my Drive account. I'm thinking this forum can be used later on to drop in all of the cool detailed info we discover in play about this town. Let me know, though, if there is a particular thread you think needs to get started in here.

That little demi-circle with t's is the cemetery. It overlooks the waters so that the dead can get a good look of the Gulf of Mexico. It's pretty old, and there are newer graveyards in town that aren't full of rusty crosses and crumbling tombstones, but it's got character. Silas sometimes likes to hang out there to cultivate his SPOOKY persona.

This is a good addition. I approve. I answered JT elsewhere because I was having trouble with the forum. My answer is this:
I forgot to add a town center which was supposed to act as a frame of reference. I'll add one later if its super necessary. For now, figure that the largest of the islands can support a few ostentatious neighborhoods with big terracotta style houses with multiple floors. So yeah, the size of the picture may not support drawing three fancy culdesacs -- so maybe use symbols for your stuff if you absolutely can't make it fit?

Only if people add to the map like they need to.

So, I don't know if people can't open up the format, or don't know what to draw or are worried about scale... If its scale, dont worry no one cares.
But if its the no idea thing then here are some questions:
•What's the place all the parents forbid their kids from going? •What's the place where the kids all hang out on weekends? •Where is your house? •Where is the school you all attend? •Where does all the teen sex happen? •What's the best night club/concert venue that doesn't I.D.?
Or maybe you need some specialized questions? Which I can't quite do yet without everyone's characters. But if you want specialized, I can do that.
Or maybe you just need more general info about the map to help? I don't know.
Look, the map is important and cool but -- like strings -- it's not best worked out online. Work with me here, kiddos. Or I'll send you to your room.

I was thinking of adding something akin to that ferris wheel/abandoned theatre in Romeo+ Juliet , not sure if anyone knows what I'm talking about. Link , in case people want avoid seeing direct visuals from said movie . Granted you should know what happens in the play

I guess since I'm here I'll go ahead and post up something else? Add some grease to the wheels. Is that an appropriate metaphor? I don't know anymore.

See that purple dot? That's The Cove, a hot nightclub. Hotter than hellfire. I guess. I've never been. But yeah, for some reason they don't card and so you can just kind of waltz in and get as much Bacardi as you dare to put on your dad's stolen credit card. It's a little weird though. I mean, they don't card, like I already said, but for the most part that's everyone's little secret. If you act like an idiot teen obviously you'll get kicked out, but otherwise it's all cool. Usually. There are rumors though. Disappearances. Probably just drunk tourists. I don't know. Someone else probably does.

There's a little beach in the north-west, past the rocky section of coast, which has all the trappings of the best party spot in the area - secluded, shielded from view from all but the outermost of the keys, and pristine. It's where the cool kids - well, the hot ones, at least - go for their summer parties. Been that way for as long as anyone can remember - dig into the sand and you'll probably find an empty bottle that someone left there a decade ago. Probably a condom or two, as well.

The blue dot is where the infamous 1987 Venice Murders took place, a total of five killings in a poor, shady neighborhood. Truly horrific crimes that maybe the older folks in town can still tell you where they were when it all went down. None of the houses ever sold again, but the neighborhood has cleaned up some. It's just a tad below average these days thanks to city restoration projects. The center point of it all is the Venice Beach baseball stadium, sadly not home to a game since the early 90s.

That little black white and gold flag thing? That's Venice Bay Community High, the school everyone attends. Urban campus, a decent arts program, and proud of their (near) champion football team, the Jaguars. The campus burned down in a freak accident and was rebuilt about five years ago, so the buildings are relatively "new" compared to some of the other schools in the area.

See the green S with the two orange horizontal lines behind it , that's "Stanley's Ferry Stand". Despite Venice,Florida 's less than ideal terrain for this particular business venture, one down and out businessman was looking to capitalize on the city's namesake. His idea to have a ferry service that would give people rides along the Venice Bay. For the most part it was a failure, sure he got the occasional business from people looking to relax but it just didn't serve much of a utilitarian purpose. It wasn't until the city council decided to revitalize the bay area that Stanley saw a rise in business .
