The mech stuff.
She's your basic holier-than-thou bitch of a white girl. She's pissed off she got an iPad for Christmas because she WANTED a new phone, and now, the day after Christmas, she has to go out and buy it herself, and just fucking ugh. Life is difficult.
You figure, she's also got some subtle (and even some blatant) racism to her. Her big plan is to move out into her own apartment (that Mom and Dad still pay for, of course) because they're so fucking stupid and she just can't stand living with them anymore. Look at her, with her arm bent and her Victoria's Secret PINK purse resting in the crook of her elbow, and her new phone clutched desperately behind nails painted by a Chinese woman.
For fun, she does whatever the fuck she feels like. Goes out with friends, complains about things on Twitter, obsessively checks her Facebook. Her boyfriend might be a cool guy, she doesn't know, he's just an accessory. She never listens when he talks. But probably likewise, too, right?
And the Puerto Rican (or Cuban, or Mexican, or who knows) cleaning woman is drinking lemonade from their fridge on her break. Like she really needs a break. What you do isn't hard. And, I hate to say it, but don't your people take too many breaks as it is?
Her breasts are okay, she thinks. Not as big as she wishes, but she doesn't want them all cartoonish. She's debating surgery.
But then, at night, she dreams. Dreams about being a thousand times the size of the sun, and rocketing towards Earth. She has a maw of millions of sharp, black teeth that glisten in the starlight. Seven brains and forty-two hearts. She eats moons and planets and stars, and she oozes down onto the planet, wrapping her tendrils around it like a hungry snake, and she sucks the life out of the planet. She leaves it a charred, withered husk, a planet brittle as dead leaves, and she slithers off to the next galaxy, the corpses of many swelling like ticks, engorged and stuck to her, pumped full of pus. And when she awakes, she can't count for the first thirty minutes to an hour of her morning, but she comes to, a little white froth at her lips and some blood from the corner of her eyes, but she's scared to death of what that might mean, so she tells no one. She knows they think she's doing drugs. She knows it. Literally, she does. She can hear it off them as if the spoke.

QUESTIONS MOTHAFUCKA:
Tell me about your clique. What kind of clique? What's their strength, from your playbook?
Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, or Senior?
Tell me about Mom and Dad and Boyfriend.
How long have you been having The Dreams? How long have you known you're broken and fucked up? How long have you been hacking the minds of those you and your gang have fucked? Do you even understand that connection yet?

Holy shit, haha, completely forgot to talk about the clique!
They're talented, being a totally hipster post-indie-punk bank that's been famous around school for two years now. Kaitlynn can play guitar... decent, not amazing (music lessons were a big thing when she was little, and her parents mistook her Queen-brain-parasite's ability to allow her to do things outside her age range as a sign of being a child prodigy) and she doesn't care about the music at all, but being in the band makes you a baller.
It's kind of like, you don't see many kids doing that. Just going full out doing something creative and good and being little teenage badasses, so everyone respects it and kinda digs it. They were always this isolated, outside thing that we admire from afar, but we don't meddle with - not until Kaitlynn got into it and turned them into social divas.
The band's name is 14 Million Orphans. They're pretentious and artsy and indie-art-house as all get out on their own, but when Kaitlynn is channeling them and leading them, they tone that down and become more bitchy, bratty. It's a forced persona they're not entirely comfortable with, but their hive-mind-edness overrides it. For now.
Hey, how's that work? My going theory is some form of telepathic projection, finding suitable hosts and spreading seeds. The band were good choices because they're powerful, popular, and can get her places.
The band is four people (Kaitlynn is the fifth): Damon on lead vocals, Brittney (she goes by Brit) on guitar, Angelique on bass / synths sometimes, and Crystal on drums. Kaitlynn's changed the music from halfway-good to kind of bland.
===========
Kaitlynn is a Senior, as of this year.
Dad works a high-paying job at the electric company and Mom works civilian support for the military. They're pushovers when it comes to Kaitlynn. They have a son who's in sixth grade right now, Joshua. No real connection between him and Kaitlynn. Sibling-stuff. Anyway, they worry about her and try to give her the absolute best, but aren't afraid to "put their foot down," which all that means is they raise their voice before relenting. They're hardly ever home except on weekends, when they go out and do parties, boating, whatever rich people do in their spare time. Republican. Everything wrong in this country is the fault of liberals, Muslims, gays, black people, etc.
Boyfriend - Will - is just a hot, popular guy at school. He's not like a jock or a sports guy or anything, but he's got an interest and he's played soccer for the school. He's a boring guy and he's cheated on Kaitlynn but he still wants to make it work, you know, because she's special. Has a brother currently in Afghanistan.
===========
The dreams have been going on for a few months now. Technically, they've been there since birth, but so muted (like most dreams) that Kaitlynn never remembered them. They're coming in stronger now, though.
So, like, Kaitlynn doesn't know what she is, and she thinks she's got some kind of fucked up brain cancer or tumor or something, but she's scared to get it checked out. She's relatively healthy, with episodes few and far between (as of this time), so she chalks it up to flukes. She doesn't consider herself fucked up, but she really doesn't know what she would call it - she knows she can read brains a little bit, nothing potent, and nothing she can control, so not really utilitarian, but those closest to her (her clique, people she fucks), she knows she can feel their minds a little more intimately, and she can "infect" them. She has no idea what to call it all, or how it really works, the heavy mechanical bits. It's all scary and new. She's realized she can do it for about a year now, and it reminds her she's "sick," so she doesn't think about it.
Above all, she kinda likes the power it gives her. Brain slaves are epic fun. Sexy, in a way. Powerful.
