aidan BISHOP The Infernal[/font] distant, piercing eyes, legion| chosenHot -1, Cold -1, Volatile 2, Dark 1 Moves• Soul DebtName a dark power that you owe a debt to. Choose two Bargains that it has made with you. It can hold Strings against you. Whenever it collects 5 Strings against you, trigger your Darkest Self. • UnknowableWhen you lash out physically against someone, on a 10 up, they lose 1 String on you. • On a 7-9, add to your list of options: they lose 1 String on you. Bargains• The Power Flows Through YouYou can give the dark power a String in order to add 2 to your next roll (choose before rolling). • Uncanny VoicesYou can give the dark power a String in order to realize a secret about someone you’re talking to. The owner of that character will reveal one of their secret fears, secret desires, or secret strengths. BACKGROUND Bishop is a young man with a potentially dangerous sense of wrong and right. Picked and teased on as child he has developed a rather misanthropic view of the world. Compounded with being raised in a dysfunctional if caring home. He had always been told how special he was by his mother. He kind of hated her for that…the sad look in her eyes. The world had done little to validate the notion up till now. When you first see the gateway, you don’t know what quite to make of it. The air around you turns a deep hue of blue and the sky seems to darken. Things seem to chill ever so slightly. And if you are the one looking through, there is always one figure standing out. Like there is a director guiding you through some perfect mise en scène. The thing is even if you want to ignore the individual, you can’t or likely wouldn't be able to . They are there of their own volition and they have a voice. These individuals were lost souls or that's what Bishop assumed they were. Dead things, sad things or misplaced things. They had been waiting for someone, him, to help them. He was told they wanted "Justice". They gave him the ability to spot lies to fight against those who spread them. He thought he might have been going crazy at first; imagining things things that weren't that there. Creating a delusion for himself to escape the mediocrity that was his reality. But the spirits told him where to go and what to look for. He was surprised at what he found and what resulted. Now there was purpose in Bishop's life.
He did have one question though, "Why Florida?" italics= in edit

so I was initially going to explain the guy's philosophy a bit more and have him see things as a bit less black and white and be a little bit less enthused, but I figured he's still in the development stage. And it might be more interesting to see if he goes deeper into black and white territory or not. Also , sorry some parts are a bit rush since I know people want to get things underway. Kinda debating two things - whether to have +0 cold instead of +2 volatile (but I figured we have enough cold peeps, granted this would just make me more rounded)
- whether to take Dark Recruiter instead of Unknowable. I kind of figured a bit of "Dexter" angle for him atm though obviously not nearly, nearly extreme. I'm not quite sure how "developed" our powers are yet. I like the idea of some souls wanting to have people brought before them and such, but like I said I think since our characters are just starting off. I'm not quite sure it makes sense with the theme I'm going with at least at the moment.
- I should say it goes without saying, "Compromised" Dexter if you've read the Character Discussion thread. And obviously one that isn't...quite as sociopathic. Nearly.
- As mentioned Bishop isn't his actual name.

QUESTIONS MOTHAFUCKA:
Tell me about mom. And dad, if he's in the picture.
Tell me about the Dark Power? Or do you want to not know and leave it up to me? If you know about it, tell me its title, from your playbook.
These lost souls, the one's who told you they wanted JUSTICE. Since you have a fucked up sense of right and wrong, you damn misanthrope, I have to ask you -- what's the fucked up thing they told you to do? You know: that fucked up thing you totally did for them.
Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior?
Any friends at all, you big freak?
How long have you been hearing the Voices? How long have the Voices been doing things for you? How long have you been doing things for the Voices?
Do you serve only ONE of them, or many of them, or do you have no clue?

Family- Generalized Description Bishop Household:[/b] Stephen – executive, Pharmaceutical Company Mother: Eileen – part-time accountant Sister; Amanda - 14 year old sister Cousin: Elijah “Eli” – 10 year old cousin from his mother’s side. [/ul] Aidan’s mom, Eileen, has a lot on her mind. She has a son who is constantly acting out in school, an angry daughter and a sister whose marriage is completely falling apart. Her marriage isn’t ideal but it isn’t as bad as it could be either. The father of her children, Stephen, hasn’t been nearly around as much as she would like and they have grown further and further apart as the years have gone by. But he tries to keep some spark alive between them even if it may just be for the sake of the family. As the kids have gotten older she has tried to keep herself occupied by taking a part-time at the local yacht club doing accounting. Generally speaking she is a nervous woman who one gets the feeling may feel a sense of helplessness towards the world around her. Her mind is riddled with worries and she often will ask the questions but she won’t take a position or a stand. At least not a definitive stand; She is a parent with “traditional” values who is aware they are outdated. Stephen has spent most of his time trying to climb to the position he currently finds himself in. Now he’s trying to make sure his company stays on top. He has developed wry sense of humor through numerous corporate dealings and this has helped him with his interactions at home, even if they are brief. More of a “shadow figure” in the kid’s development, he has tried to dole out good advice and spend quality time with them. But being the provider has always come first and foremost. Aidan’s sister acts mostly bitter towards him. A jealous rivalry exists between them. She views him as the favorite, and Aidan views her as the desired child. The one with less mental problems, with more friends, a less troubled childhood, the one who got into advanced placement programs. Her main concern is similar to that of other girls or at least Aidan thought so. She was jealous of other girls and their looks. From what he heard it wasn’t just the attention from boys, it was also being “special”. He understood that part. Elijah is staying with the family as Eileen's sister and her husband deal with some "issues". A quiet and seemingly sensitive kid- one gets the sense he realizes he is an extra burden or has been made to feel that way often. He seems to get along best with Aidan, though Amanda often tries to gain his attention. Interestingly enough the tastes of a 16-17 year old boy and a 10 year old boy aren't that different...

Answers Aidan’s mom is essentially the glue that holds the family together. The one that makes them eat dinner together; the one that makes each member of the family talk about their day. Like her son, she has a very rigid sense of right and wrong. However her values would likely be classified as “traditional” or “idealistic”- as in the standard most of an older generation like to think they held themselves to (those old “American Values”). She often tries to get through to her kids and fails, often looking to her husband for help . When her kids step out of line, she tries to be a stern authority figure and fails. Again she looks to her husband and this is an area where he isn't willing to step up. Stephen doesn’t want to be the bad guy. He prefers to go through life being liked, this has helped him a great deal in his career. And he prefers to be viewed this way with his kids. He often spoils the kids when he is around, which often puts the mother in a bad light. Something he hasn’t become aware of till recently and something he is trying to make-up for. Lately he seems to be trying to have a more active presence in his kid’s lives. Emissary seems like the best fit Conceptually I sort of view the struggle of Aidan against this Collective as a dictator trying to maintain control over the masses – and it’s simply something that won’t work. The Facts I see them:- Aidan is the one and only way through to this world for the souls.
- Now whether this means he just has to be alive or in the same vicinity or whatever is entirely open to definition, but I do think there should be some co-dependence. That causes these people to keep coming back and perhaps nag him to death.
- They appear to him one at a time , at least to start with
- think this is kind of important to establish it might just be a reflection of himself and that he might only be talking to one individual. Cause paranoia in him, even if say one soul talks about another and warns him.
- The souls may range in how much they give a damn about Aidan and how moral they are. I think the thing they have in common is they are part of a Collective and no matter how much they want to escape it, they are trapped in a sort of Limbo together. If there are good “souls” they could just go into hiding, but that would just be allowing the big fish to completely have their way. But if they stand in their way what happens?
- Now this is moot if they are the same individual, but there is room for some tragedy here. Hell maybe they can consume one another.
- Are these guys dead or perhaps these were past people who were gateways/breaches?
- I’m inclined to go with dead, but not sure if this should be set in stone
- Some souls definitely prefer to not prefer human like (e.g. taking possession of inanimate objects)
As for what Aidan would know, I think he would be told they died by the first person that came through. And he’d definitely be told of a hierarchy of sorts but in vaguest of senses, like “there are ones you should watch out for”. And I think times at night he has seen glimpses of them. The interactions are very much external. If he ever takes Dark Recruiter, which I hope he does, shit is gonna get creepy. References (all contain spoilers): Dexter Season 6 Promo (spoilers) , Donnie Darko, Akira If you think it cooler to keep it ambiguous, I'm down with that
A few months back there was a middle-aged man waiting outside Aidan's school. He had a distinguished face, kind of like JFK or how you might imagine Nick Fury would look in real life. The guy was wearing an olive polo shirt and had his hands burrowed in his pockets ; a look of boredom and slight antsy-ness. Aidan knew from the temporary tunnel vision he got, that this was his man. The man smiled when he noticed Aidan spotting him. For some reason a number of the souls always seemed pleased to get recognized , like it was some sort of honor. Their greetings often reflected it as well.. Most of the time, at least. The man introduced himself as "Henry". The pair walked a bit, they talked about petty stuff; the weather, old T.V. shows (the ones Aidan had seen at least) and school in general. Seemed like a nice enough guy. Then they reached the baseball field. A few kids practicing in the distance, none of them really looking back near the entrance where Aidan was. Someone had left a bat, the man picked it up and told Aidan "Put on your gloves", he told Aidan. They walked some more, things grew silent and Aidan was getting more and more worried that he would be seen but the man didn't seem to give a fuck as he moved with steadfast determination. It wasn't clear where they were going until Aidan saw three figures in the distance all wearing a jacket hovering over some poor kid. They had been beating the shit out him and the kid was whimpering in the pain but they weren't letting up. It was starting to become clear what "Henry" wanted. He turned to him, the bat was already being held up in air along with a black ski mask with old red markings on it. "Make sure they never harm him again" This was Aidan's first "favor" for the collective. A bit more on this (mainly the kid, also Aidan's attempt at doing a Christian Bale Batman Voice) Kid's name = Grant and is likely a Freshman-Sophmore
I'm leaning towards Junior, but I guess I'll see what others are doing.
Aidan has people he feels he has allies of sorts within the school but he doesn’t have any real close friends. His mysterious aura and willingness to stand up for the underdog has has gained him a few admirers from a few different social circles . Most of the more popular kids have tried to integrate him into part of their social circle with little success while some of the outcasts maintain a connection with him mainly to ensure they stay protected. His willingness to speak his mind has also bought him some points with the more “edgy” teachers and those students who are starting to go through that existential phase.
Aidan would wager the better part of a year. Maybe 9 months? Supposedly they have been guarding him from something, he isn't sure what. He has been told to train himself. He assumed that meant physically. He started taking jiu-jitsu and been making use of the track field more. Aside from the bat incident he isn't aware of doing any direct favors. Aidan is also playing baseball more, now.
Aidan initially only knew of one. A zen looking guy in his late 30s or so with raven black hair. He never learned his name. He said he had forgotten it. That he had been searching for Aidan. The guy was nearly in tears. When Aidan found him he was an odd dead thing who contorted back to life in a surreal scene that Dali might have created had he collaborated with the creators of the Ring. The "messenger" as Aidan came to known him as told him of other souls and that things have now changed that they had made contact. Since then Aidna has seen other spirits on the edge, but so far they have only been watching. He wasn't positive there was more than one or if it was just his imagination until he met "Henry". edit: I want to look this over considering how late/early I'm writing this, but this should give you an idea

You know I actually had an incomplete copy of the book.
Re: The Dark Power
I think Emissary fits best and leaves things open enough.
Also after talking with simon. chosen may be more appropriate description for my character's background as opposed to legion even though there is a "legion" element. I had debated it before.
