Well, see, I'm all about the Octopus banner because it ties in with Clever and Cunning, but I think these qualities can also be applied to the Cuttlefish, and its scientific name is just so euphonic and already sounds like the sort of name you'd find in fantasy Europe.

Oh, and as for House Aspects, I vote for Fog Cannot Be Dispelled By a Fan.

As for aspects, now that I am home...
I like All Married Women and A Merry Companion, but they might be either/or. Fog Cannot Be Dispelled is also a good one. If My Dog Knew My Plans is probably my favourite, though.

Yeah I think they are a tad too similar considering we only get three additional ones.
edit: well you would be covered for any social situation really... but *shrugs*

If you're not quite sure what y'all want for your Aspects, go ahead and just name your three that you want and we'll tally. What gets most votes is picked, and then we move on and vote again to resolve ties. Seem reasonable? Or you can keep discussing them I suppose!
So far so good, guys.
House Sepia/Sepiida yeah? Standard is the Octopus Virtue is Cunning Clever Lord
Just neep your specialty, your aspects, your province name, and your holdings. We're making excellent progress.

so it's kind of like having the House name Canis and having the standard of something not quite like a dog but quite similar anyway prefer Sepia over Sepiida since Sepia is apparently an actual Surname. edit: Surprising or maybe not.

I'm good with Sepia
I vote for If my dog knew my plans, Fog cannot be dispelled by a fan, and a merry companion is as good as a horse

If we're naming three, then I'll go with Fog Cannot Be Dispelled, If My Dog Knew My Plans, and A Merry Companion
Specialty... I figure we're going to be based (at least partially) on a coast, what with the octopus and all, so maybe something related to the ocean? Or possibly something textile-based, like silk.
We also need a House motto, don't we, since we don't have the same "names have meaning" thing (which is entirely ludicrous). I am not sure where the author got his definitions for names, but nothing he says makes a word of sense. Also, he seems to be listing places in his specialities section in a way that makes no sense whatsoever, and just looks ignorant - putting Hokkaido and Hiroshima under the "Fukuoka Prefecture" banner is the same as saying that Knoxville and New York State are under the purview of Alabama.

since we have to pick 2 of these for our character. I'll just vote for the ones that interest my character But want some clarification from alfred, because some of the compels are a bitchfirst- IF MY DOG KNEW MY PLANS is my favorite so that gets my vote regardless. basically the coolest. Here are my thoughts and questions on the others ones - A Merry Companion is as Good as a Horse
- pretty good except you are required to use humor and the compel has that "fool" aspect, which makes me hesitant to put it on the list. But if you get past that you have to always use humor it has pretty broad usage.
- All Married Women are Not Wives
- I think this one could be very cool narratively but I could also see it putting some people in sexy adventures they'd rather not be in. Also seducing is more particular than the skill above even if you have to use "humor" (which kinda dictates your dude or dudette ( I assume we're all male characters).
- The Best Sword Stays in the Scabbard
- Now this seems pretty freakin awesome at first. INTIMIDATE THE FUCK OUT OF PEOPLE , like you could see quite a few characters using that, until you read "you genuinely believe you should never strike first and won't unless the other person does. Then you go daww. It's still kinda neat but you don't get to be mr. venom quite as much.
- The Deer Hunter Pays No Mind to the Hares
- This kinda seems like something you would give your gang in AW. Kinda interesting but mainly if desperate if you go physical. Esp. since not directly combat related
- Dig Two Graves
- Even a Thief Must Learn his Trade
- kinda nice flavor but doesn't appeal
- First the Man Takes a Drink
- Fog Cannot Be Dispelled by a Fan
- Pretty cool effect , the compel of being addicted to lying is a bitch though. I imagine a lot of these are good for certain characters
- If One Man Praises You
- I would find this appealing but I imagine you literally have to talk about yourself as opposed to belief system or some such
- Laughter is the Fool’s Hiccup
- hmm imagine it's handy for the Seneschal.
- One Word Can Warm the Winter
- I actually find this one appealing despite the rudeness. But it doesn't carry as much narrative weight as some others.
- Ten Men, Ten Colors
- seems too obvious "we're the good guys"
- The Mountain Never Falls
- this would be appealing but I have no idea what extent "rude, brutish and don’t care about etiquette" goes to
- Nail and Hammer
- seems like the proper "court" advantage. so kinda so-so in terms of being interesting like the above for physical types
- Waiting for Luck is Waiting for Death
- If you could assign a trait to individuals npcs in your house , this would be great. Otherwise the compel is too high for the gain
so....ones I definitely don't care for that much - Even a Thief Must Learn his Trade
- First the Man Takes a Drink
- Ten Men, Ten Colors
the ones I want to like (in order pretty much) - Dig Two Graves
- One Word Can Warm the Winter
- The Best Sword Stays in the Scabbard
- The Mountain Never Falls - mainly because the lack of physical
followed by in no order - The Deer Hunter Pays No Mind to the Hares
- Laughter is the Fool’s Hiccup
- Nail and Hammer
- Waiting for Luck is Waiting for Death

well I guess would the
"Sword in the Scabbard One" just apply to one and one conflicts?
